Medical Review Officer

The Medical Review Officer (MRO) plays a critical role in drug testing programs in assesment of whether or not an alternate medical explanation can account for a positive drug test result. Another very important function of the MRO is to provide for the privacy and confidentiality of the employee's personal medical history during the course of reviewing drug test results.

The MRO plays a fundamental role in fulfilling the Constitutional requirements of the Fourth Admendment for federally-mandated drug testing programs. The MRO balances the protected rights of the individual tested with the compelling concerns for health and safety in the workplace.

Ohio Health Consortium believes that for a drug testing program to work properly, it is essential for the MRO to have a working understanding of the legal and technical issues involved. Since the MRO makes the final determination as to the accuracy of a drug test, their decision can be as critical as the laboratory findings. Ohio Health Consortium believes that a certified MRO helps to ensure the receipt of quality services.

Ohio Health Consortium is pleased to have on staff Dr. Donald E. Harris, DO, MRO, R.Ph.as Medical Review Officer. Dr. Harris is a board-certified physician, registered pharmacist, and is certified by the American Association of Medical Review Officers (AAMRO).
